Question: Is the ash from volcanoes going to affect the climate ?

Keywords: , , ,

  1. Excellent question!

When volcanoes erupt they can send up lots of ash into the atmosphere. Strong winds can then blow that ash all around the world really quickly. This can definitely have an impact on the climate of an area. If there is enough ash in the sky, it can block out the sun which causes the area to become very cold. The ash can also mix with rain water and this turns into acid rain. The effects ash have on the climate can be bad, but usually they don’t last very long as the ash can’t stay in the sky forever – it will eventually fall to the ground because of gravity or rain.
