Question: I heard that the Maleo bird incubates its eggs in warm volcanic soil. Did you know it? If so, can you tell me more?

  1. hello!

yes I have heard the same! I think the birds are located in places like indonesia where is is already very warm. But the birds lay large eggs and they need to be incubated and kept warm before they hatch. Whereas chickens incubate their eggs by sitting on them, I think the Maleo birds bury their eggs in the sand and either heat from the sun, or geothermal heat from volcanoes keeps the eggs warm enough to hatch!

I would want to be careful to make sure i didnt bury my eggs in sand that was too warm or they would cook!
