Question: Hi. What was the thing that you liked to study what you are doing?

  1. Hi Linas,

If I understand your question correctly, you want to know from me what i liked while studying that made me do what i do now during my PhD. If i got this wrong please correct me!

The truth is that I switched a lot while studying. I started doing physics and astronomy, but two years into my bachelors I was not so motivated anymore, so I decided to go travelling for a year. During that year I got very interested in earth processes and landscapes,I just wanted to understand what was happening around me and how everything I see gets formed. that’s what I liked and that’s why I started studying earth sciences.

During earth sciences my interest got more specific, but it took a while to realize. I actually started doing geophysics, which combined my physics study with earth sciences. I liked it, but the only problem was that it is especially about processes happening inside the earth and…that again I could not see really see or touch! So, after doing a nice class on sediments that get affected by the position of the earth to the sun (if you want to know more about that, just ask!), i got really interested in this amazing mechanism that involves the entire solar system and you can find in small layers of clay and sand, anywhere on earth! So in the end, when i heard there was a PhD project, both about the salt crisis and about these kind of sediments, i didn’t have to hesitate long to apply. luckily, i got 🙂
