Question: Does the Earth have the highest density in our solar system?

  1. That’s a good question, that i also had to look up for a moment, but the answer is yes. The earth is the most dense planet of our solar system, and also the sun is less dense. Maybe you know that our solar system consist of 8 planets (they took away Plutos status as planet not so long ago). There are 4 inner planets which are solid and rocky, like our earth, and therefore all quite dense, and 4 outer planets, also called gas giants, which are much bigger but only consist of gas and therefore have a much lower density.

Of the 4 rocky planets the earth, which is the biggest one, also has the highest density, especially because of its relatively large core which completely consist of iron, and iron is very dense. The second densest is Mercury, which is much smaller, but also consists of a lot of heavy metals.

  2. Hi!
This is not exactly my area of expertise, but I think I can still answer that.
Yes, the Earth is the densest planet in the solar system. The average density is 5.51 grams per cubic centimeter. This is variable since for example the core is much denser than the continental and oceanic crust.
It looks like Bas and I were answering at the same time and he has already given you lots of other useful details.

  3. Well, Bas and Alice are almost right, the Earth is the densest planet. However in the solar system there are bodies that are denser, the iron meteorites!! Iron meteorites have a density of 7 to 8 gr/cc. It is thought that the core of the Earth was formed with similar bodies to this iron meteorites.

I admit this was a wonderful question!!

    Cheers

  4. Earth is the densest planet, but other bodies are denser.
Thumbs up for all the previous answers! 😉
