that’s a really good question! Volcanoes erupt due to melting of material to produce magma. This happens when the continental plates are being torn apart like in Iceland, or being pushed underneath each other like in the Andes. Sometimes it can also happen when a plume of magma pushes up right in the middle of a plate like in Hawaii, but we don’t *really* understand how that happens… Usually though, once a volcano dies, it is because these events have stopped happening, or have moved somewhere else and so there is no more magma being formed. So unfortunately, there is no way to re-activate a volcano once it has died. It would be pretty cool though…!
